Queen Victoria was crowned Queen of the United Kingdom and Ireland in Westminster Abbey on June 28, 1838, when she was just 19 years old. She had actually become queen the previous year at age 18 following the death of her uncle, King William IV. Her coronation was one of the most lavish public ceremonies of the era and attracted enormous crowds throughout London.
