5. Napoleon Was Extremely Short

 

Napoleon is often described as a tiny man with a huge ego. The phrase “Napoleon complex” still gets used for short men who overcompensate with aggression or ambition. British cartoons helped cement the image of Napoleon as a small, angry tyrant.

In reality, Napoleon was probably around average height for a Frenchman of his era. The confusion partly came from differences between French and British measurements, plus propaganda that mocked him as “Little Boney.” He may look short by modern standards, but for his own time, he was not unusually tiny.
