7. Queen Ranavalona I of Madagasca
A marriage to her second cousin ended in death before the reign of this queen. Rabodoandrianampoinimerina was Queen of Madagasca from 1828 to 1861. Her long reign kept her country from being colonized but at a tremendous cost. She used a form of tax called fanompoana which was essentially forcing people to work on projects she decided. A barbaric form of trial was in heavy use during her reign. Tangena involved forcing people to swallow 3 pieces of chicken skin before consuming poison. If the person vomited all the pieces of chicken skin, then they were declared guilty and often executed.
