From Bronze Age cargo to an Antarctic expedition, these ten shipwrecks preserve surprising evidence of how people traded, fought and lived.
What the Sea Gives Back
The most revealing discovery is not always the most valuable one. A glass ingot explains trade, a bell gives a wreck its name, and a wooden cup brings a sailor’s routine into focus. Together, these finds make large historical events feel human.
Shipwrecks are not perfectly sealed time capsules. Salvage, currents, decay and modern recovery all affect what survives. Careful archaeology records those changes, and conservation keeps recovered objects available for future study. The strongest stories come from following the evidence, including the places where it cannot yet provide an answer.
