6. Nero


Famous for playing allegedly playing the fiddle during the great fire in Rome, Nero is a Roman emperor that became absolutely mad with power. His reign began in 54AD and ended in 68AD. Nero’s early reign was dominated by the influence of his mother. He eventually had his own mother murdered. Many Roman came to believe that Nero started the great fire that destroyed or damaged the vast majority of the city. If he did not start the fire, then it is quite convenient that the location of his mega palace was located in the charred ruins that suddenly became available. Nero blamed the small religious sect, the Christians, for the fire, and many of them were tortured and murdered. After the Roman people became fed up with his reign, he was tried in absentia and declared an enemy of Rome. Nero was the first Emperor to commit suicide.
